Walk Safe...Be Safe

Lindsay's school had a Walk Safe poster contest. Being the competitive child she is, she wanted to enter the contest. So all on her own she drew a poster picture and turned it in to her art teacher for the contest. She was a winner for the 1st grade!! She did a great job and we are proud of her. Notice our red van and the crossing guard, we see this every morning when I drop her off at school. It is being showcased at school. Here's her picture and award.

"Look left and right and you'll be great" " Fun folks, walk to school, be safe"

Happy Fall Ya'll!

We've had lots of Fall fun! Lorin picked us out a GREAT BIG pumpkin. He and the kids had lots of fun carving it. Lindsay had a field trip to the zoo and Gavin's was to the horse farm. It was Gavin's 1st field trip. He painted a pumpkin and fed the horses. The farm animals came to Abby's preschool, her favorite animal was, of course the puppy! We went to our church's 1st fall festival. There was lots of candy and fun games.

Lindsay turns 7!!

I can't believe Lindsay is seven years old. Where has the time gone? She decided she wanted to take a few friends to see the movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". So we did and then we went over to Steak-n-Shake for milkshakes. Lindsay also got TWO shopping sprees one with Mimi and one with Grandma & Papaw! What a lucky girl!! We are lucky to have Lindsay... she brings lots of life to our home and raises interesting questions for me and her daddy.. it wouldn't be the same without her. She is a great big sister and a wonderful daughter.

Turtle Hunt

One of our projects this summer was our turtle hunt. In 2004 it was the manatees, 2007 the jaguars and 2009 the turtles. It is a fund raising event for the Child-Guidance Center. The turtles are all around town, we had lots of fun 'hunting' for them. We were in some treacherous weather conditions (no, actually mostly the Florida heat, but a little rain too). There are 24 turtles and thanks to our family and friends we saw all of them and are only missing a picture of one!!! Thanks again to our family and friends for making turtle hunting that much more fun!

1st Day of School

Not only was it the first day of school, it was the 1st day of Bartram Springs Elementary our brand NEW school. We have been watching the building of the school progress over the last year. How exciting!! Everyone was excited to meet their teachers and see the inside of the new school. It was nice there were several familiar faces.

Lindsay's class seems to be quite small right now only 15 enrolled, but only 11 have shown up. Her teacher's name is Mrs. Redmon. Gavin's Kindergarten class has 22 students with Mrs. Sisbarro and a teacher's aide. Gavin did really well for his first day no tears from him, he was such a BIG boy.

I on the other hand was really sad and upset when I left the school. Abby wasn't sure what was going on. I watched the clock every hour wondering how their day was going. When Abby & I picked them up they told us all fun stuff they did. They took a tour of the school, met all the resource teachers and most importantly got to play on the playground. Gavin was most excited about having more boys in his class than girls, I'm not sure if the teacher shares the same sentiment!! Lindsay enjoyed lunch time the best!

I can't believe how time flies. In one moment you covet the day they will start school and now here we are and it just isn't as fun as I envisioned. My heart ached every minute they were at school, lucky for me I have four more years to enjoy before I have to send another one off to Kindergarten.

Downtown Disney

We met the Donley's at Downtown Disney for birthday fun! We were celebrating Taylor's and Luke's birthdays. It was a little wet, but we didn't let a little rain stop us from having lots of fun!!

Duck part TWO

Now that I look over our summer, we have visited several ponds with ducks!! This one is courtesy of Mom and Larry. They were having dinner at Outback one night and saw all the ducks. Of course, we headed to see the very next day! There were LOTS of them!!

I kept telling them they were getting too close and the ducks might bite them. But no one listened, and when Gavin tried to pet one of the big ones. The duck squawked and flew away it scared the bee gee bees out of Gavin. It was hysterical. I didn't even have to say I told ya so!!!

Ducks

Don't miss the videos at the bottom of the post!!

Abby kept trying to put her foot through the fence, I thought her Croc was going to be duck food.

Abby really enjoyed the ducks at the park. She got so excited!! We also saw lots of turtles.

Homemade Applesauce

Today's summer activity was making homemade applesauce. When we were visiting Lorin's Aunt Linda in Vermont, she had some homemade applesauce. The kids loved it! I think Lindsay loved it at first site because it was pink (made from red apples)!! So I ran accross a recipe to make it from your crock-pot, we are in business! It was quite easy!

Here's a picture of the after...

The verdict...... everybody, but Lindsay liked it. She thought it needed more sugar, but she thinks everything needs more sugar! I thought it was quite delicious and to know all the ingredients were natural makes it even sweeter!! We used granny smith apples, it's just what I had on hand. Next time I promised Lindsay we would use red apples! Here's the link if you are interested in trying it for your family!

Grandparents

As I was surfing the internet I ran across a blog talking about being a grandparent, don't ask why I started reading it, but I did. Anyway, She is talking about her grandson and daughter and this is what she says this about being a grandparent....

"I am freed of both the responsibility and the routine of everyday life. I can shower love on him when she “doesn’t understand” him. I can indulge him, while she has to socialize him. I am associated with presents rather than punishment. No wonder the bond between grandparents and grandchildren is so strong!"

I thought it summed up the grandchild-grandparent relationship. Here's a link to her website if you are interested in reading more.
